If you are creating a short film about a loved one or producing a short one for your film requirement in class, digital movie making is not only a trend but is a major part of the film industry.
An amateur filmmaking trainee or a professional filmmaker must be wise enough to know what needs to be checked when doing film creation. Here are some basic things to note for both types of filmmakers:
The Equipment
Digital film technology has reached that point of advancement wherein even those who have no knowledge about filmmaking can produce professional-looking videos and short films about family and loved ones.. This is so because of the user-friendly equipment used. However, you should know how to choose the one that fits your needs and different uses.
You should be aware that the digital video camcorders have different formats. The MiniDVs film on small tapes while video cameras film on HDD or High Disk Drive. DVD camcorders meantime record videos straight on discs that can be viewed through the DVD player.
If you’re using it for family movies and short films of gatherings, the miniDV is more appropriate as it is handy and quite easy to operate. The other types of cameras also have with them their own advantages. Video cameras make it easy for you to share your work with others. This can be great for those who are studying filmmaking and needs to share their films to a group. The DVD camcorders’ advantage is its large storage which is suitable for those who actually come up with their own films.
You must also have the video editing software but you need not worry as they come built-in with today’s desktop PCs and laptops.
The Angles and Shoots
For you to have shots like a pro’s, you have to consider the four aspects: lighting and exposure, stability, editing and audio. Digital video camcorders do not function well in a spot where there is a wide range of lighting. Always see to it that the lighting is more uniform.
For purposes of stability, particularly for the small cams, make use of tripod when filming or a digital stabilizer of you have it. Remember that a slight jolt can ruin the scene or the picture.
Any camcorder has basic audio devices to go with it. To have better quality of sound, you can set up a boom microphone on the audio input port and place it closer to the subject during filming.
When you edit, it’s best to stay away from too elaborate effects; stay simple in order for you not to appear an amateur.
